Mark was, and still is not only a mentor but a role model of mine. He has a level headed and logical approach to training and climbing in general, that has not only been shaped by the best, but that has shaped the up and coming into the best. His in depth understanding and passion for climbing is the result of decades of travel, exploration and examination. And this grasp is manifested in the rare masterly ability to teach movements, and the complex understanding of them, that otherwise take years to hone. I know that my own personal success in climbing is largely the outcome of Mark's dedication and enthusiastic method of coaching, and I attribute many of the ways I approach life to Mark's sound philosophy and wisdom. I have only the highest forms of respect and admiration for Zippy and recommend his time to anyone with the desire to improve.
Tyler Landman
Climbing, in all its forms, has fascinated me for many years with its combination of physical effort, infinite variety of movement, complexity and pure fun which I believe is unsurpassed by any other pastime. It is my desire, in all aspects of my work, to pass on this fascination. The world can be a demanding place and climbing with its myriad challenges offers anyone, of any ability, quality time out. As a route setter of over 20 years experience I am inspired to create as varied a collection of routes as possible and my outdoor experience gives me the opportunity to set in a variety of styles, inspired by nature, which, hopefully, will assist the indoor climber in making the transition to the outdoors. For all of my clients I wish to reinforce in them the sheer delight in movement which climbing in all its forms offers.
Having trained people of the calibre of Tyler Landman and, more recently, in my work with members of the GB Junior Climbing team, I have taken training ideas from many other sports and developed them specifically for climbing. For the more modest achievers (ie. the majority of us!) I have created training models for every level and feel confident that anyone who trains/climbs with me will find them of benefit. As a coach I believe that I can make an accurate assessment of a client’s weaknesses and strengths. In consultation with my clients I offer advice and a strategy for improvement. I feel that it is my responsibility to give my clients whatever it is they really need to get the best out of their climbing experience.
